The Quilts of Virginia

Schiffer Books are so, so lovely.

Quilts of Virginia 1607-1899:
The Birth of America Through the Eye of a Needle
Atglen, PA:  Schiffer Publishing, Ltd.
Barbara Tricarico, editor and photographer
168 pages.

Although not a new book (2006), I thought I'd share this recent read with you.  I came across a copy while doing some writing research.  Let's just say I didn't get much writing done:  I was too focused on this fascinating read!

The Virginia Consortium of Quilters studied over 3,000 Virginia quilts for this book project, and over 270 of them are photographed in this collection.  After a foreword by the ever-creative Jinny Beyer, the history and photographs document Virginia's history by region, such as the Shenandoah Region which covers Roanoke up to Frederick County.  Quilters will appreciate the accompanying pattern for Virginia's own Farmer's Delight/Farmer's Fancy Block.

What are you reading?

  1. Hi, Amy! Thanks for the compliment on the rapture quote and picture. I saw the quote on one of my favorite blogs..Lea- from The Shabby Olde Potting Shed! She had a different picture but I asked to use the "quote"...and she was so happy I did! I went looking for a picture- one I had in mind that could be used and found one!! Please feel free to use it-for it's a great testimony! Lea is a precious christian lady, and I love her spirit! Check her blog out if you haven't! And by-the-way, I'm not reading anything particular now except the WORD! But I do enjoy some good books now and then! Blessings to you...it's a pleasure to meet so many sisters in CHRIST! From one sweetie to another~~~~Roxie

  2. Hi Amy! Thanks for stopping by! On your question..I got the "quote" off the blog Shabby Olde Potting Shed. I asked Lea, who has the blog if I may use the quote, and she was thrilled I asked! I did have a picture in mind I wanted to use, so I searched for free pictures and found what I wanted! Please feel free to use it...It's a GREAT TESTIMONY! If you haven't visited Lea-Please do! She's a wonderful sister in Christ and has a great spirit! By-the-way, I'm not reading anything right now besides the Word...but the quilt book looks like a great read! I LOVE QUILTS, too! I listed you on my Main roll of BLOG READS also...it's wonderful to meet new sisters-in-CHRIST! Blessings~~~from one sweetie to another~~Roxie

  3. Hi, Amy! Thanks so much for introducing yourself over at my blog! I love it when new followers do that.

I love quilts so much! Right now, I have an antique lone star quilt on my bed but I have another less fragile one over that to protect it from the cats and my puppy!

Right now, I'm reading Anne's House Of Dreams! I hadn't read it since the early 90s so I'd forgotten a lot of it. (That's always nice!)

I look forward to reading your blog! ♥

  5. I had not seen that book before, Amy. Looks like a good read--very like Fawn Valentine's book on WV quilts?

I've been reading Jim Comstock's WV encyclopedia; it's a wealth of information and folklore about this state. And my latest issue of Storytelling magazine which focuses on anti-bullying stories and programs.

  7. What a nest book. I bet the quilts are fabulous in your book. Back then it was all hand sewn and sometimes very detailed.
