Hankie Favors

 

Who doesn't have a love for vintage hankies?

 

 

 I happened upon a group of forty-some hankies this year

and knew they'd be the perfect favor for

a ladies' event at my church.

 

I needed about 60 for the event.

The group of forty-some was an incredible find.

The remaining 20 or so were easy to obtain.

 

 

Each vintage hankie was cleaned, folded, and arranged

within a specialty paper envelope.

I loved the dainty crocheted edge on the one above.

 

Can you see the incredible embroidery on this hankie?

The padded satin stitch is amazing.

 

 

Others like this scalloped edged beauty

had floral designs on soft cotton.

 

 

Watching the ladies choose their favorite made my day!

Spoon Rack Upcycle

 

When I found this $4.00 cutie,

I knew it would be just perfect

for an upcycle project.

 



This unvarnished piece just needed a spray coat of

white primer followed by a coating of

black enamel spray paint.

 

 

(Easy-Peasy)

 



The wheat imprint on the rack's top

hides beneath this

framed mini-collage.

 

 

 

My hankie holder now resides

in my little sewing nook

right above my sewing machine.

Hankie Heaven

 

 

When I began collecting vintage linens,

I merely focused on linens that were embellished

with beautiful embroidery and crocheted edging.

 

The needlework called to me.

 

 

I really didn't intend to become a collector.

I just picked up pieces here and there

as I would come across them

at thrift stores, estate sales, etc.

Each found treasure would introduce me

to a new pattern or embroidery stitch,

 and I would become intrigued.

 

It didn't take me long to realize

 I was amassing several pieces --

 Alas! I was collecting.

 

 

As I began to read about vintage fabrics and needlecraft,

I was also discovering the beautifully bold

printed tablecloths from the 40's -- 60's.

I'd also see cute little aprons and crocheted potholders.

When I came across them for next to nothing,

I just had to bring them home!

 

That's how all these beautiful hankies came home with me.

How could I pass these up when a local antique store

was selling them cheap?

  They're in excellent condition.

 

 

 

I used the Christmas hankies in my Christmas decor.

 

 The West Virginia State hankie is the only

handkerchief I have searched for online.

 

I wasn't willing to pay the $30.00-$40.00 price tag.

 

Guess which one I found in the little basket from the store!

Yeah!

Vintage Linens for Christmas

Lovely Vintage Christmas

 

Who doesn't need a Christmas hankie

or Grandma's Christmas tablecloth?

 

This vintage crib ladder displays

my red and green finds

from this past year.

 

Under the red stocking is a white crochet-edged

pillowcase from Great-Grandmother.

This red felt stocking also came from

Grandma.
